It’s My Party and I’ll Cry If I Want To

Melanie Martinez is the perfect blend of kawaii, edgy, and macabre. While she first became known by being on the show The Voice, Melanie quickly paved a way for herself. Last year, she released her Dollhouse EP and her full-length album is due to be released sometime this year. I got the chance to watch her perform live at Chicago’s Lincoln Hall earlier this year. She sounds just as good live as she does in her studio recordings.

In more recent news, this lady just released a new music video for her song titled “Pity Party” and dammit, I love it so much. I’ve been listening to her song non-stop for the past 30 minutes (and will probably be doing so for the next few days until I get so tired of it that I want to barf). This song sounds so catchy, but the lyrics are aggressive and very angry. It makes me want to think cry, cut up stuffed animals, burn down a house, and freak out with Melanie while shouting “It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to”. I swear I’m not crazy… just watch her music video and you’ll know what I mean haha. Check it out and let me know what you think?

ACEN 2015: Days 2 & 3

I didn’t get to take that many pictures on the last day of ACEN, so I ended up grouping the pictures together onto this one post! I’m already suffering from post-con depression. I hope everyone else is doing okay! This post also includes picture from the Soul Eater and Attack on Titan cosplay meet ups. As always, I hope you guys enjoy the pictures! If you see someone you recognize, please share this link with them. Also, if I have a picture of you on my post and you do not want to be pictured, please let me know so that I can take your picture down. 🙂

ACEN 2015: Day 1

I’ll probably write some kind of recap of this year’s ACEN eventually, but for now, I just wanted to post some of the incredible cosplay that I’ve seen! I was surprised to see a lot of Death Parade and Tokyo Ghoul cosplay (both are my current obsessions). I’ll be posting pictures throughout the weekend so stay tuned! This is a post for the pictures that I took on Friday. You can use the pictures, but please credit me and comment/ or contact me via facebook, email, etc. to let me know. 🙂 Continue reading

Stress, Stress, Stress!

Hi everyone! I’m sorry for the lack updates on this site. I’m quickly starting to realize that I’ve been overambitious with my activities this semester (18 credit hours of classes, writing for two media outlets, and three jobs). Anyways, thanks for sticking with me here on The Alienette. I have some things that I’ve been working on which I plan on posting either later today or later this week (if nothing serious comes up!). But for now, I wanted to share this soundtrack with you:

This is one of two soundtracks for the anime series Zankyou no Terror and it’s wonderful. It’s been getting me through all of my stressful assignments during the past two weeks. I’ll be writing a review about this anime later on too, so stay tuned!

Concert Review: The Blisters (2015.01.03)

On Saturday, a local Chicago band called The Blisters had a show at the Beat Kitchen on Belmont. I mentioned in a previous post that they were currently one of my favorite indie acts. This concert just added onto my already long list of reasons why I love The Blisters.

I’m Writing for The Geekiary!

Hey Everyone! I recently started writing for a website called The Geekiary which is pretty much a place where you can go to read about all of your geeky interests such as TV shows, conventions, anime, comic books, etc. Today, my first article for the site was published and I was so excited that I just had to share the news! It’s about an anime that I’m really into called Tokyo Ghoul (season two starts on January 8). Check out the article if you can!

I just wanted to inform you that although I will still be writing lots of anime reviews, analysis, and recommendations on my blog, my writing will also be available on other websites!

Review: The Influence of “The Breakfast Club”

I’ve been a huge film buff for as long as I can remember. Before I started uni, I watched, on average, five to eight movies a week. Sadly, it’s difficult for me to watch even one to two movies every month these days. Nonetheless, I finally got a chance to watch The Breakfast Club last week after being told over an over again by friends that I needed to watch it. Here’s my review!
